Ski Trip #2!

Yesterday, I took the girls out of school for the day so that we could head back up to Winterplace for a day of skiing. Arden went with us so that she could ski with them since I couldn't. I pouted a little because I wanted to be on the slopes too. But anyway, we had a great day! Ghent, WV had gotten about 6 or so inches of snow Sunday or Monday, so the slopes were perfect.

Going in, the landscape around both Winterplace and Glade Springs was breathtaking. Just beautiful.

We rented skiis from the Ski Barn and then on up the hill we went to the slopes. Prep time takes toooooo much time when you're really excited to get out there.

In the parking lot, trying to be patient while Hop-Along-One Toe (as Thomas calls me) attempts to get several loads of gear out of the car.

Poor Mama.....

Ski on, girls!!!

Go Brookie!!

Cammie - on the move!

At the top!

Coach Arden!

Fun, fun, fun!

Gym Time, Finally!

I went to the gym today to figure out what I could do with my toe so messed up. As I said before, this boot really stabilizes my foot so that little gets to my toe. The only problem is, that since last year when I trained with Charmayne, I was doing A LOT of stability and balancing with lifting since that really works your core more. Power sets and core workouts are really what revs the metabolism. BUT, your big toes, according to doctors and trainers are the 'power toes'. It is their job to keep you in balance, therefore giving you the opportunity to do things like bosu workouts and plank workouts. Anyway, I'm sorta going to work through and around that for a couple of weeks. But, the rest of the stuff I can do. Cardio wise, I can only do the bicycle this week. Yuck! It does't burn enough calories in the same amount of time as other things, so I'll have to add 20 or so minutes to cardio. At any rate, I should be able to get a decent workout in in about 2 hours. So, that'll have to do for now. Just in case ya'll wanted to know all this stuff.......

Puddin' Foot!

I talked to Cotton Ketchie the other night and he said Vickie had made a banana pudding for me. Oh my gosh- there's one of these waiting in heaven for me, I just know it!! It was DELICIOUS! It was made with sour cream. I'm getting ready to have some more! By the way, check out Cotton's gallery. You can click on Landmark Galleries on my home page. He also has a blog that is kind of hard to get to and we can't figure out why. You can't get to it from my blog space so I deleted it. Anyway, try to google it at cottonketchies america in photograghs. The pics are awesome.

AND- Thank you Cotton and Vickie; ya'll are so thoughtful!!!

Before lunch!

After lunch! Yummy!

Also, foot update. I went to see Scott Sherrill (our orthopedic specialist) today and he x-rayed my foot just to double check. I have two breaks in my big toe - one completely across the toe and one almost perpendicular. He said I came just a hair of having to have a tough surgery because of where the break was. I said, "a toe surgery tough?" He said, "Oh, you just don't know. It's probably the second hardest surgery on the foot, including the ankle, just because of where it is". He also said, "no running for 8 weeks." FINE! JUST FINE! I'LL DO SOMETHING ELSE! My Mama is just about to ring my neck because I can't sit still. I've done 1200 sit-ups in the last two days, going on 300 push-ups, and some chest and tricep work. I figure I might have a jiggly bottom half, but my top half I can at least keep in shape. AAARRRGGGHH this is killing me. I know, I know - God is just telling me to rest. Anyway, he put me in a boot for a couple of weeks that is just lovely (except when I go to the gym, haha).
Isn't this the most attractive thing on a female you've ever seen? It's just lovely.

This is after coming up stairs at the end of the day. I put my foot up the side of the door and rest a minute. With the boot, I don't really need the crutches now. It stabilizes my foot very well.

Goin' Pro, Dontcha know!

After church on Sunday, we headed to West Virginia to tube and ski at Winterplace. We had reservations to stay at Glade Springs Resort, which is really nice. We had decided to tube on Sunday evening and then ski Monday and early Tuesday. Didn't quite go that way. Here we are before we went tubing; all happy and excited.

Going into Winterplace...even with 57 degree temperatures there, ice was still lingering on the ponds.

And, here's the rest of the story....

We started tubing around 5 o'clock. It began to get slick and fast and fun!

At one point I couldn't dig my heels into the snow because it was icing over quickly and I went over the snow hill at the bottom of the lanes and into the safety net. Oh, but don't worry, it gets better. We took a break for something to drink and came back out of the lodge to tube some more.

16 lanes of pure fun!!

The moon was setting beautifullly over the horizon. (By the way, I'm using Camryn's camera until mine gets fixed).

Around 7:30 or so, I went down the very last lane because it was the fastest. At the bottom, I tried to stop, but frozen snow wouldn't let me dig in. I was flying. And yes, again I went over the snow hill and into the safety net. Huge difference this time though; I was going so fast that I continued on through the net (busted a hole in it) and flipped head over heels down a steep enbankment and landed on the road. Scared the daylights out of me. One nice gentleman whose family was right along with ours while tubing headed down the enbankment to help me since Thomas was still at the top of the hill. All I could think of while I was headed face first, belly down (after flipping) was " Oh Lord, I hope I still have my teeth. Please don't let my teeth be broken or cracked." Stupid, huh?! Anyway, I was in shock supposedly and told Corbin and Adam (ski patrol dudes) to check my teeth and Adam said, "you have them all, but don't worry, we're in West Virginia. If you didn't have them, you'd fit right in." HEHE. My face was cut up and dirt was everywhere and my left foot was throbbing so horribly, they had to cut my boot off. To make a long story short, all I broke was my left, big toe at the base nearest my foot (the doc said the bone broke completely in two), have some bruises and scratches all over my face and an ornery attitude because they told me not to work out. HMPPH, I DON'T THINK SO!!! I have a shoe thing to wear with crutches for a little while. Besides that, I'm good. It could have been a lot worse. In ski patrol room.
Facial scratches and bruised bone under my eyebrow.

I think what scares me now, is what scared Thomas in the middle of the night. He helped me to the bathroom and in just a few seconds I told him I was going to pass out. I did, in a big way. Probably because my blood pressure was 104 over 55 at the clinic and demorol does a number on me. But anyway, we're back home a day early. As soon as I can walk well, I'm taking the girls and Arden (a friend of mine who skiis) back up there so they will get their chance to ski, even if I don't get mine.

Cute, but I don't know how to get this off of this post.

Beth "Mountain Chick" Garrett

This picture is from back in the fall, right after someone bumped the back of my van and we had to have the bumper and a side piece replaced. Pat Bradshaw of Colormasters did a great job. He and his wife, Becky, have the most beautiful place out in the country. When we took the van to be fixed, he was trying to get us to buy some acreage around the area, complete with access to THE pond. Still want to purchase it, but most probably will not. At any rate, because Mooresville is RACE CITY, I told him I'd sign my bumper like the drivers do; he or we could sell it and make a HUGE profit so we could buy the property. It's been a joke since. I told him people would be waiting in line to buy something with my signature on it. HAHAHAHAHA!!! Anyway, here's the photo of the bumper signed, Beth Mountain Chick Garrett.
Be back with you in a few days with some skiing pictures and hopefully no broken bone pictures. We're going to Winterplace in West Virginia to ski and tube.
